Top College Programs – 2012 Rankings

With trips to Nationals every year since 2005, it was almost inevitable that a talented Pitt squad would break through and earn their 1st Nationl title. They did just that beating a Wisconsin team that has also had success at the highest levels in recent years. In the end, Pitt’s offensive power and speed were too much for the Hodags, with Pitt prevailing 15-10 in a dynamic game featuring some of the finest Ultimate athletes in the country.

Perhaps the bigger story, as far as these rankings go, however, is that Santa Barbara’s (UCSB) decades long reign as the finest program in the history of the sport, has ended.

Carleton College with its student population hovering around 2,000 has seized the crown.

CUT’s 3rd place finish at this year’s tournament has enabled them to pass UCSB and gain the title of “best ever.”

While a disappointing loss to UCF in the semi-finals dashed all hope for a 3rd title in 5 years, this vaunted Ultimate powerhouse has prevailed. Reaching the national tournament an astonishing 23 out of the past 24 years, its rich history of sportsmanship and athleticism, has claimed the title that it richly deserves – the “Most Successful Collegiate Ultimate Program” of all time. Our congrats to the CUT program, the 2012 players and coaches and all other CUT players, past and present. Let’s see if this year’s tournament will shake up the rankings again. Our bet is that Carleton sits atop this list for a long time. Now, about that Division III thing…
